BKLF - IKLF Level 1 Kettlebell Instructor Course and Certification Test




The Scope of IKLF Level 1 Kettlebell Lifting Instructor course

There is great difference between merely being exposed to a particular technique and to mastering it. Learning is a process that even when guided with the best known techniques and teaching methods takes time. Expecting to master an advanced technique in one day (even a 10 hours seminar) it’s irrational and unrealistic. At the course near 100% of the students are capable to perform the most complex techniques to a certain level of proficiency under guidance during practice. However, when asked to perform a Bolt set in front of an audience most fall apart and revert to rudimentary forms of technique. Even though these students were able to perform the movement during practice they hadn’t actually learned it yet.

At the Level 1 course the expectation is that only those who have hours of previous practice test and those who are starting take the time to practice after the course to test. The course will fine tune those who had been practicing and provide with strong and proven strategies for the new comer to curve his/her way to mastery and become a true instructor.


The level 1 course covers the following topics:

Kettlebell lifting endurance. IKLF developed the Bolt training method over many years of work with kettlebell lifting athletes and athletes cross training for other sports. Over time these techniques and methods were introduced to the fitness population with great success for cardio, weight loss and overall conditioning improvement. Endurance techniques and training methods studies make the bulk of the Level 1 course.




Kettlebell lifting fitness exercises and methods. Bolt practice expresses the unique potential of kettlebell lifting as a superb muscular endurance and conditioning tool however that’s just one aspect of what kettlebell lifting has to offer. At the level 1 course dozens of training exercises are studied to increase training vocabulary.




Training planning and injury prevention strategies. One of the keywords of training success is “consistency”. As a rule of thumb the consistent trainee will reach impossible heights that the average person can only dream of. To be able to be consistent in training is an achievement on itself. It requires diligence and patience and the use of rational training methods. At the IKLF level 1 course the instructor will study training principles and methods that will deliver but won’t kill you (or your client). This is the core element of the IKLF method and Bolt training.




Bolt training and ranking practice. Bolt ranking and competitions are an important part of our training method helping us evaluate training progress. In addition presently to maintain the certified status the Instructor must rank and participate in a Bolt competition at least once a year.




Certification testing standards

The students are tested throughout the course and at the end of the course where they have to demonstrate:

  • Fundamentals kettlebell lifting endurance technique – Basic Scoop Swing, Jerk, Rack position, Lockout position, hand techniques, breathing, and additional technical variations taught during the course as needed to demonstrate depth of knowledge.
  • Turkish Get Up (backward lunge variation) with explanations
  • Coach Rithner’s Windmill Series Sequence with explanations.
  • Three kettlebell fitness exercises - chosen at random by the proctor - to demonstrate technical vocabulary.
  • Understanding of the IKLF kettlebell lifting training planning principles.

  • 14:00  Final Testing.
